Afghanistan, Kabul- On Tuesday, a head of the provincial police and more than 20 officers died in eastern Afghanistan, while the Taliban armed men wearing explosive vests caught their headquarters with a vehicle. .

Nearly 200 people were injured in the attack at Gardez, the capital of the province of Paktia, according to local officials who said they would expect the toll to increase

"The victims are increasing," said Hedayatullah Hamidi, provincial director of health. "This is not the final list."

He said that 193 injured and 23 deaths, including civilians and police officers, were taken only to the Paktia Provincial Hospital.

The Taliban declared that they ignited two vehicles, first a truck and then a Humvee before their fighters came into police cops. General Assadullah Shirzad, the head of the Eastern Police, said 11 attackers were involved.

Habibullah Sarab, 16, who lives near, said he was taken to the scene after he had heard a big explosion, breaking the windows of his house.

"I saw dozens of people lying under the rubble of the explosion," he said, adding that most of the citizens are waiting outside the police for new passports.

The destruction describes "very bad," he said, "Some people were burned by the explosion explosion, others walked in their blood."

He said he found burned cars in the street near the police headquarters.

Among the murdered people, General Toryalai Abdyani, Head of the Provincial Police, was a member of the provincial council.

"The car, full of explosives, managed to get all the way to the police headquarters," said Abdul Raouf Zadran, member of the board.

Paktia police spokesperson Wali Tabasum said he had survived because he was sent 20 minutes earlier for a job mission.

But to General Abdyani, "he was killed at his desk," said Tabasum.

The attack was on Tuesday one of at least two Taliban attacks in police offices. In the southern province of Ghazni, militants also attacked a security complex that killed at least seven police officers.

The Afghan Ministry of Interior said the attackers in Paktia were armed with heavy weapons and suicide vests.
